Commemorative Walk & Meditation for Hiroshima / Nagasaki Anniversary
Saturday, August; 9:30 – 11:30 am; Boundless Way Zen Temple, 1030 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA 01602
On Saturday, August 9, we will observe the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with a silent commemorative walk and meditation by the water.
This gathering will take place during the first full day of our Summer Sesshin, and we warmly invite both sesshin participants and members of the wider sangha and community to join us.
We will begin with a silent walk from the Temple to Cook’s Pond, followed by a period of meditation at the beach area by the water. The walk and meditation will be held in silence.
This is offered as a gesture of remembrance for all who suffered and died in the bombings, and as a contemplative act of bearing witness to the continuing danger of nuclear weapons in our world today.
For those who are unable to walk, we will gladly coordinate ride-sharing from the Temple to the pond so that all who wish to join may do so.
More details about timing and logistics will be shared as the date approaches. For now, we invite you to mark your calendars and consider joining us for this morning of remembrance and peace.
