Boundless Way Zen Temple is a religious organization founded to support a vibrant and inclusive Zen Buddhist practice. Our central value is to awaken to non-duality and its compassionate realization in everyday life. Zen practice allows us to face directly into the currents of greed, anger, and ignorance that arise in us all. As we confront the root causes of conflict in our own hearts and minds, we are better able to see through the delusions of separation and to act in the larger world with more compassion, clarity, and effectiveness. In a world torn by armed conflicts and political strife, we are sometimes asked to publicly comment on the ongoing wars, political dishonesty, and controversies of our day.
These are indeed troubling times, with the foundations of our democracy being tested and with ongoing armed conflicts throughout the world. Polarization and demonizing other people fuel ongoing fear and antagonisms. As long as we see other people as “different” and less than ourselves, we will continue to perpetuate these endless cycles of violence and retribution.
We see Boundless Way and our practice as a safe haven in these disturbing times; not a place to put our heads in the sand, but a place to cultivate wisdom and compassion to be able to meet the times in which we live effectively. How do we live lives of balance and meaning in the midst of uncertainty and ongoing oppression of one group by another? How do we discern the truth when the currency of the day is exaggeration and lies? How do we keep our hearts open and still find the courage to act in alignment with our deepest values? These are the questions we explore together through our practice of formal meditation, meetings with teachers, and community dialogues.
